Tower hike with NYC skyline views
The Bearfort Fire Tower is a 68-foot tower located in West Milford on Pequannock Watershed land, offering a moderate 5-mile round-trip hike with views of northern New Jersey, New York City, and the Catskill Mountains. The trail passes ruins of Cross Castle and a stone water tower, then descends to Hanks Pond.
Outdoor
Pequannock Watershed permit required; check permit details before heading out.
The descent just after the fire tower is the most challenging section; otherwise mostly flat woods roads and gentle trails.
On clear days you can see New York City from the tower's top; fire season visitors may be allowed inside the cabin by staff if manned.
Parking at P-1N Clinton Road; no restrooms on site.
