Natural playground and nature trail
Leonard Schine Preserve in Westport includes a natural playground designed for ages 3-7, built from logs and sticks with areas for fort building, digging, climbing, and imaginative play, plus a family nature trail with interpretive markers and an acorn path for kids to follow.
Free · Outdoor · Quiet-friendly · Ages 3-7 (natural playground)
The natural playground is designed for ages 3-7; younger toddlers and older kids may find it less targeted.
Grab a map from the box at the trailhead to lead your child on a self-guided nature discovery tour with 10 marked ecological stops.
Avoid hiking in Trout Brook Valley during hunting season (spring and fall); Leonard Schine Preserve itself is hunting-free year-round.
Park on Glendinning Road at the roadside area; the preserve entrance is marked by a sign about 1/10 mile north of Lyons Plains Road.
