Hiking, lakes, and cross-country skiing
Clarence Fahnestock Memorial State Park in Carmel spans 15,000 acres across Putnam and Dutchess counties with hiking trails, a scenic campground, two lakes for boating and fishing, a nature center, and access to the Appalachian Trail. The main campground is closed for 2026 due to bathhouse construction, but the group wilderness campground remains open, and Fahnestock Winter Park offers 20 kilometers of groomed cross-country ski trails and sledding.
