Step dancing, beginner to advanced
Mulkerin School of Irish Dance in West Haven has been teaching Irish dance since 1939, with classes for children ages 4 and up through adults across multiple levels from beginner to advanced. The school offers step dancing and Ceili (group) dances, with progression to hard shoes and competitive pieces like Riverdance choreography as dancers advance.
Indoor · Active · Rainy-day pick · Ages 4 and up; adult classes also available
Beginner classes start at age 4; the school emphasizes posture, rhythm, and basic steps like jigs before introducing harder techniques.
Free try-it classes are available; check the registration page to sample a class before committing.
Hard shoes are introduced once a beginner reaches intermediate level and learns half the Hornpipe; the teacher will advise when your child is ready.
Dancers can compete through Feiseanna (Irish dance competitions) or perform at local events, nursing homes, and Irish festivals.
