Free telescope viewing and astronomy talks
The Westport Observatory, run by the Westport Astronomical Society, hosts free weekly Wednesday public viewing nights where volunteers set up telescopes for stargazing; the site also offers monthly free science lectures featuring astronomers and researchers.
Free · Outdoor · Quiet-friendly · All ages welcome
Public viewing nights run 8pm–10pm on Wednesdays when skies are clear; check the website by lunchtime that day to confirm it will be open.
Parking is limited; if the lot is full, park at the Aspetuck Health District lot below and walk up the hill.
Dress warmly, especially in winter; the outdoor event gets very cold.
Avoid arriving before 8pm unless you arrange it in advance; email the observatory if you're bringing a group larger than five.
In June and July, don't arrive until after sunset (around 9pm) because the sky won't be dark enough to observe.
