Operating model train set, free for kids
The Mahwah Museum in Mahwah displays local and regional history across two levels, with permanent exhibits on Les Paul, the Donald Cooper Model Railroad, and rotating main galleries. Small children gravitate toward the basement train set, and the museum also operates the Old Station Museum with a restored Erie caboose nearby.
Indoor · Rainy-day pick · Quiet-friendly · Children and students 20 and under are free
The model train layout in the basement is a major draw for young kids; expect them to spend time watching the operating HO gauge railroad.
Visit on Saturday or Sunday afternoon when the museum is open; it closes weekdays except Wednesday.
The Old Station Museum's caboose tour is seasonal and opens in late June; confirm availability before visiting.
