Hiking trail with viewpoints and ledges
The Tunxis Trail is a 38.5-mile hiking trail that runs from Southington through eight towns to the Massachusetts border, forming the backbone of an 83-mile interconnected trail system in central Connecticut. The trail traverses diverse terrain across the western ridge of the Connecticut valley, with southern sections featuring woodland paths and viewpoints like Julian's Rock, a mid-region stretch in Burlington with challenging ledges and historic sites, and northern woodlands near Tunxis State Forest with hawk-watching views and steep climbs near the state line.

The trail system includes many loop options; check the CFPA website for a map before heading out, as relocations and detours are common.
Parking areas near trailheads have been relocated for safety in some towns; follow current signage and blue blazes carefully.
