Historic tower climb with valley views
An 80-foot steel fire tower built in 1911 sits atop a 540-foot hilltop in Orenaug Park in Woodbury, offering views across the Pomperaug River Valley. The hike to the tower follows a gradual red trail with a steeper yellow-trail alternative, plus access to Bethel Rock, a historic cliff formation.

The red trail up to the tower is fairly gradual with only a couple steeper sections, manageable for most kids.
There's a viewpoint partway up offering views west over Woodbury; good spot to catch your breath.
The tower stairs are open steel lattice with see-through railings; heights-sensitive kids or adults may find it intimidating.
Park at the main entrance on Park Road rather than the unpaved Park Lane, which has very limited parking.
